Why Fangirling is Good for Your Mental Health

Are you a fangirl or fanboy, then this piece of writing is for you and of course to share with your fellow folks. Being a fan is a natural phenomenon and it doesn’t have any eligibility criteria or limitations. You can be a fan at any age and at any time, it’s just you feel connected to that person ( celebrity or fictional character) or something (books, anime, manga, manhwa, etc.).

The reason I wanted to write about, why fangirling is good for your mental health, is to explain how it can change someone’s life. How fangirling can impact someone positively. I am a fangirl and I can proudly say that it has brought so much peace to me amidst the severe turbulence of life. It won’t be an exaggeration if I say that it saved my life, for real.

Fangirling helps you to go on with the tough days and provides you “happy hormone” rush. Just looking at your favorite character, or reading your favorite book gives you a “schedule for tomorrow” when you don’t want to go on with today. Whether you are feeling depressed, grieving, or fighting against the odds of life, it gives you the courage to take on life with so much strength.

  • Gives you self-understanding
  • Boosts your creativity
  • Helps you to understand your self-worth
  • Helps healing
  • Promotes self-love

These are tried and tested since I am one of the examples and I believe many of you who are reading this, agree with this.

Looking at your bias brings a huge smile to your face, watching a K-drama and relating to a certain scene or watching anime and feeling to be part of those streets or scenes are some of the proofs that when you don’t want to face the world, you have your virtual happy world.

How many of you have started something you once loved and brought it back to your table because of your favorite personalities or idols? They inspired us to be a “better version” of ourselves, better tomorrow than today. They encourage us to take a baby step, one at a time, towards our well-being and dreams.

It may sound harsh but this world is still not prepared to understand the efficacy of fangirling. People do not have that level of emotional intelligence as they can deal with this passionate love towards someone who doesn’t know us. For them it is an obsession, be it, but do we owe any explanation to them? These “people” can be your parents, friends, spouse, or even relatives, who freely want to judge you instead of looking into your aching heart or stumbling dreams.

Do you question your happiness because of these people? If yes! Then let me break it to you, you have all the right to be happy. Being in a fandom and feeling included, celebrated, and rewarded is nothing to be ashamed of. If your fangirling is pushing you to get up and achieve your dreams, then could it be wrong?

There were days when I didn’t want to wake up because reality was taking a toll on my soul, but fangirling helped me to wake up for the next episode, next comeback, next chapter, and next season, it sweeps thorns away from your way so you can walk without hurting yourself.

Fangirling is good for your mental health as it hits the dopamine and serotonin levels high when your body is flooded with the cortisol hormones only.

I cried gallons after losing and grieving and this is the only thing that kept me sane. If you are loving someone in a positive way, without harming yourself and others then this is the perfect “Happy Pill” for you.

But remember, we, as a fan, are always under the scrutiny of people around us and even the media, so be a responsible one, who doesn’t hurt someone in order to have fun.

“You don’t need to explain about your Happiness”.

Share it with same-brain celled people and tell me in the comments who is your favorite and how they helped you?
